As a way of giving back to the community, we try to swim one rescue dog for free a week. Here is the story of our latest!!
Dusty & SwimSpaw
Dear Janice & Kendara:
I can’t tell you how happy the volunteer staff of Center Valley Animal Rescue was when we heard that Dusty, our badly injured dog would be able to keep his back leg thanks, in part, to the loving massage & swim therapy he received at SwimSpaw. We so appreciate your kind and generous offer to help two of our dogs “pro bono”. Dusty had been badly injured when he jumped out of a car window and was hit by another car. With a broken pelvis and a badly broken back leg Dusty was taken to a local veterinarian’s office. When Dusty’s previous owners said that they could not afford the surgery and medical rehabilitation it would take to save Dusty the Vet’s office called Center Valley to ask if we would take the dog. We did. And, shortly after that Janice at SwimSpaw contacted CVAR and offered to give therapy, for free, to Dusty and another dog who came to CVAR at the same time with much the same injuries and the same prognosis and who’s owners were much in the same boat.
After about 8 weeks of therapy Dusty’s x-rays finally showed improvement in his leg and mobility. We attribute Dusty’s success to the loving care he got at CVAR and to the loving care he got at SwimSpaw.
We would gladly trust future dogs , animals to your healing care and would gladly recommend SwimSpaw to other families looking for relief for their injured or pain suffering animals. Oh, and Dusty is now in his new adoptive home with recommendations and referral to another therapy program in his new area.
Yea for SwimSpaw!
Your fans at Center Valley Animal Rescue in Quilcene, WA.
What people are saying about SwimSpaw:
Kendara worked with my 8 year old dog Maddie who had ACL surgery. The swimming and massage therapy sessions worked great to get her mobility back. Kendara is very gentle and made her feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend SwimSpaw.

When my husband and I first read about SwimSpaw opening up in Kitsap County, we were thrilled, and eager to try it out for our then eleven-and-a-half year old dog, Layla. She was having severe mobility issues due to arthritis in her back hips. Just a simple walk down the street a couple of blocks was a struggle for her. It broke our hearts as she had always loved her walks. She was on medication, which had helped initially, but even t hat was no longer as effective.
Now, two years later, we feel we have “turned back the clock”. Layla is presently thirteen-and-a-half years old, and thanks to her wonderful therapists at SwimSpaw, enjoys daily walks, as well as daily outings to the park. She will even run after a bird or squirrel now and then!! We feel truly fortunate for having found SwimSpaw.
We began to notice a difference after the first two sessions of swim therapy, and it has literally been uphill ever since. Not only has it greatly improved Laylas quality of life, we feel we have actually extended her life by gaining back so much of the mobility she was losing.
Janice and Kendara keep Layla’s veterinarian, Dr.Blair, updated on her progress with monthy reports, and we regard them as an integral part of her veterinary team.
The therapists at SwimSpaw have been wonderful to us, and to our girl, and we are so very grateful. Thank you!

SwimSpaw is very client-centered. They truly go out of their way to make the people and the dogs feel comfortable. We have seen an incredible increase in our baby's ability to move since bringing him to the pool.

We were so glad to find Swimspaw right in our own backyard. Thank you Kendara and Janice. Our older dog Andy has greatly benefited from his Swimspaw experiences. His hips have improved and he has gained strength. He enjoys the whole adventure including the massages. We highly recommend Swimspaw and encourage you to take your pet for a visit. Thanks Swimspaw, Gene & Sandy Hill

Services at SwimSpaw are not medical procedures, nor are they a substitute for medical diagnosis. We work closely with the client's veterinarian before, during, and after sessions.
